An impressive array of 68 players, drawn from every level of experience, vied for honors in the annual District 7 summer team tournament.
I like to acknowledge competitors, who, for lack of a better title, are the “Titans of The Tournament”. These are the players who won all 3 of their games: Jay Davidson, Bill Shockley, Jan Zerr, Minda Needham, Leroy Zerr, Dot Nelson and Gerry Goggin. Congratulations to all of you, and especially to Minda Needham for her first tournament win! Three new captains stepped forward for this event: Jay Davidson, David Miller and Mike Garrett.
As of today, 101 portraits of Hall of Fame winners looked down, with silent approval, from the North wall of this, the Official Shuffleboard Hall of Fame of California.
These were 12-frame games played under combination CSA and District 7 rules. After 6 frames, all players switched over to the opposite side, taking their colors with them. Hemet Muni and SDSE supplied large numbers of players to the pool, 17 players from each club.
A defining moment was the order of finish that was so close. Only one point separated the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers! Many thanks to Helen Bell, Pres., for organizing and supervising these games.
The winners were – –
