Seventeen rookies competed in the 2-day tournament hosted by the Ramon Shuffleboard Club in Palm Springs January 19 & 20. The desert weather could not have been better and reinforced why the shufflers are in the Palm Springs area during this time of the year.
District 5 President Blaine Clarke welcomed the shufflers each day and thanked the many Ramon Park Shuffleboard Club volunteers – Sharon Brown who was in charge of organizing the lunches served each day; Fred Brown, Head Referee; Liz Orem-Bedel, Head Scorekeeper; and Dick Jenkins, Head Boardman. These people chaired their positions, but the tournament would not have been successful without the many volunteers who helped at this annual tournament.
The Championship and Consolation Division winners were:
CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Champion: Brett Hamilton, Palm Desert Greens
- Sheila Messler, Desert Crest
- Tim Southern Palm Desert Greens
- Herb Bolton, Palm Desert Greens
CONSOLATION DIVISION

Champion: Mitch Billinghurst, The Canyon
- Dana Neu, Royal Palms
- Wayne Schlosser, TriPalms
- Barb Bohn, Royal Palms
Brett Hamilton, the 2026 Champion Rookie will have his name added to the traveling plaque donated by Shirley Eager in memory of her husband, Gene Eager.
District 5 thanks Ramon Shuffleboard President Kerry Bedel and everyone who shuffled, spectated and volunteered to referee or keep score.
The next District 5 tournament will be the Any Doubles Tournament to be held February 24 – 27 hosted by the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club at their facility in Cathedral City.
