Reception held at Hemet Muni honoring an icon from years gone by, Marty Boyajian, on August 24, 2017. Most of us were not aware that he was born in 1926.
Some of the programs Marty put in place in Hemet Muni:
He began down-loading articles about each tournament to the Press Enterprise in 1995.
(He resigned from that position and turned it over to me in 2008).
He, and his wife Dorothy, put the Bonspiel Tournament into the Hemet Muni program 22 years ago. This has continued to be a centerpiece each summer ever since. Players always looked forward to playing in it.
In 2004, he was responsible for the start-up of the highly acclaimed Classic Tournament by way of negotiating with Arizona clubs to have it incorporated into District 7’s agenda. Games alternate between these two districts from year to year.
The “Four Heads Are Better Than One’s” style of play was his contribution also. That continues to this day.
He and his wife, Dorothy, were inducted into the California Hall of Fame, and later on he was inducted into the National Hall of Fame.
Marty brought a new dimension to shuffleboarding when he introduced the “Exceed Program” to the club. He invited a large number of education-impaired young adults to Hemet Muni to learn our activity.
They seemed to readily take great pleasure in this, as I did, working with Marty on this.
Indeed, Marty has become a paragon in molding shuffleboard into an upscale activity here in Hemet. And yes, they do play shuffleboard in Pueblo, where he now resides. They do this on a roll-out court once a week.
A nice crowd turned out for Marty’ visit and he was given a lovely commendation to remember us by.
